Tibetans in Gansu Province hart hit by Sichuan earthquake of May 12,’08

Tibetan Review
May 15, 2009

A total of 167 administrative villages deep in the mountains in the primarily Tibetan inhabited Panqu County of Gannan (Tibetan: Kanlho) Prefecture of Gansu Province were affected most adversely by the Sichuan earthquake of May 12, 2008, reported China’s official Xinhuanet May 12.

It said that the Maigongshan Village of Wenxian County's Tielou Township was one of the major Tibetan-inhabited areas for Baima Tibetans. Some 90 percent of the houses in the village collapsed in the quake.

Another Tibetan area mentioned as among the hardest hit was Boyu Township.
