Nepal To Construct Highway To Link With China
KATHMANDU, May 28 (Xinhua) -- A senior government official has said that Nepal is set to construct highway to link Nepal with Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) of China, with the help of the Chinese government, state run Radio Nepal reported on Sunday.
"With the help of the Chinese government, we are going to start construction of the much-hyped Syafrubesi-Rasuwagadhi highway this year," the radio quoted Ram Sharan Mahat, finance minister of Nepal, as saying.
In order to shore up bilateral trade with China, the government is set to start construction of the highway, Mahat said at the 6thannual general meeting of Nepal Trans Himalayan Border Trade Association, a non-government organization which has trade relation only with China.
There is 115-km-long Araniko Highway in operation, the only one highway that links Nepali capital Kathmandu with TAR.
"The government has also planned to link that highway with the Prithvi Highway, one of the major highways of Nepal that links capital Kathmandu with other parts of the county, with assistance of Asian Development Bank," Mahat said. Enditem
