[WTN-L World Tibet Network News. Published by The Canada Tibet Committee. Issue ID: 01/10/06; October 6, 2001.]

KATHMANDU, Oct 6, 2001 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- A Nepali business team of over one hundred members left for Lhasa of the Tibetan Autonomous Region of China Saturday to take part in the Nepal-Tibet Trade Fair which is slated to begin on October 11.

More than 34 firms from Nepal are taking part in the five-day fair which aims at promoting cross-border trade and investment, officials of the Nepali Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies told the press at the airport.

Some of the products that the Nepali team will be displaying at the fair include statues, garments, agro-products, oil, Nepali paper, hides and skin, medical herbs, iron, furnitures, spices and pashmina products, said the officials.

The officials said that the fair, which is held every two years alternatively in Nepal and Tibet, is of significant importance in view of the huge trade volume between Nepal and China. Statistics by the ministry shows that trade volume between Nepal and China stands at around 12 billion rupees (160 million U.S. dollars) last year.
