[WTN-L World Tibet Network News. Published by The Canada Tibet Committee. Issue ID: 03/07/13; July 13, 2003.]

China Daily
13 July 2003

Rescue teams had found 16 bodies as of Saturday evening at the site where a group of road workers wereburied Wednesday evening by a landslide in Tibet, southwest China.

Rescuers said that the bodies could be all the victims in the accident, however, they did not exclude the possibility of any passersby being buried.

The accident occurred on the Sichuan-Tibet Highway, one of the highest roads in China, linking Tibet and other parts of the country.

A mass of loose rocks tumbled down from atop the mountain road, approximately 500 meters above the workers' camp, and buried the tents where the workers lived. All the workers went missing excepttwo who were rescued and later sent to a local hospital.

Rescuers said that the two workers in hospital are now in good condition, and rescue work is continuing.
