[WTN-L World Tibet Network News. Published by The Canada Tibet Committee. Issue ID: 2004/10/25; October 25, 2004.]

LHASA, Oct. 25, 2004 (Xinhuanet) -- Five people were killed by a wall collapse at a bridge construction site in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region on Sunday morning, local authorities said on Monday.

The accident occurred at around 8 a.m. Sunday when a supporting wall to Nujiang Bridge, under construction, on Yuxi Highway in Qamdo Prefecture suddenly collapsed, killing five workers at the scene and injuring two others.

The construction work was suspended for rectification by a working team sent by local authorities after the accident happened, according to the sources.

The working team also demanded an overall security check to theconstruction site and handle the aftermath properly.

Previous explosions at the site and a heavy rain on Saturday were believed the main reasons leading to the collapse, local officials said.
